Durham, NC (2007)
Pre-renovation, this Victorian mansion had been divided into a quadplex used for student rentals. This house was purchased for $180,000 in 2007 and is now worth $1.5 million. Many of the unique original features, including mantels, tile fireplace surrounds, and heart pine floors were refurbished. The house is a winner of the Pyne Preservation award for its balance of energy efficiency and historic charm. Not many homes can boast an underground rain water cistern and a dumbwaiter.
